Tour SAINT BERNARD information

STARTING POINT

Starting point for the Tour St Bernard is Orsieres train station in Switzerland in the region of Valais, Switzerland.  Meet at 09:00.  Meet outside the train station for onward group travel to the mountain village of La Fouly.

WHEN:

This trip is offered non stop in late July, August and September 2024 and 2025.  It is the favourite trip of the International Mountain Leader at MONTBLANCTRIPS who would be delighted to take you on this trip offering views of the Mont Blanc Massif mountains from the Swiss & Italian Alps on a circular trek staying at Swiss & Italian Alpine Refuges / Rifugios.

DAYS - 5 or 7?

Tour St Bernard takes between 5 and 7 days.  Entirely your choice.  If the weather is good you can enjoy 5 long and demanding walking days, for a more leisurely option try it in 7 days just in case there is a lightening storm or bad weather day.  You will possibly enjoy it more at a leisurely 7 day pace allowing for less altitude gain in one day and some wiggle room to shelter from any heavy rain or alpine lightening storms.  7 days takes off any pressure or anxiety in a schedule.  Alpine storms can be intimidating and dangerous so a 7 day option removes any anxiety whereas a 5 day walking schedule is somewhat rigid.

A TMR bus can be used to hop between locations where a roads exists in Switzerland but that is fairly limited as the terrain is remote Swiss mountain terrain and in Italy some mountain areas are without roads.

WHY TOUR SAINT BERNARD?

Great mountains and hut hospitality.  Great views of Mont Blanc Massif mountains.  Gorgeous flowers.  Remote valleys.  Good Ratatouille.  Great mountain passes in Italy and more gentle paths in Switzerland.  It is currently not overly busy in high season and so avoids the crowds seen on more popular trails which can resemble the London Underground in rush hour at some times during the rush hour in peak season.  It is far less frequented so the biodiversity excellent.

VIEWS:

The Tour Saint Bernard is equally as breath taking as other trips with alpine scenery and mountain views across the valleys including the Mont Blanc Massif Mountains which are slightly more distant being 1 or 2 valleys away but you can see the entire range instead of the rocks in front of your nose.  The alpine scenery is lovely in summer with alpine flowers everywhere in July and August.  Of course September is less colourful but the trees and berries deliver their own seasonal variations in early autumn.
