This steep up and down walking trip is arguably the most popular walking route in the Chamonix valley for walkers searching for daring rocky steps and for climbing ladders up the mountain side to reach a beautiful viewpoint of the Mont Blanc Massif and all the surrounding mountains in the valley. It takes you from Chamonix valley road level up to Chéserys lake, then on up to Chalet Blanc for a refreshment break next to Lac Blanc with some of the finest views of the Mont Blanc Massif and the Chamonix valley you could wish to ever see. The trip requires steady footing on well worn foot paths and patience and care as you climb ladders up the rocky sections to reach the mountain lakes. Naturally the same concentration and care applies for the way down when your legs muscles are tired from the ascent so some may need to allow more time for this adventure than imagined. Lac Blanc is now a protected sight and respect must be shown for these 2 wonderful areas of natural lakes that are possibly over visited yet still worth the effort to see if you fancy the hike up, not least for the magnificent scenery visible on both sides of the Chamonix valley. Start from Chamonix train station at 08:30 or Argentiere train station at 09:00. Finish at Montroc train station when the group has reached the end of the walk. The connecting tourist viewing train will return you down to Argentiere and Chamonix town.
