Height: Usually between 10cm and 20cm tall. Cordifolia is shorter than common.

Time to ultimate height: 1 - 2 years.

Ultimate height: 0.3m.

Leaves: Can be as long as 4 cm. Common variety leaves are longer, thinner, along the entire stem and all the away up.

Leaf grouping: Basal long and thin with more rounded endsLeaf edge: Smooth, slightly indented at the end

Leaves: Spring, summer and autumn

Stalk: thin and solitary. For the common it is as tall as 40cm and covered / sprouting leaves all around.

Growth: not seen alone very often.

Flower grouping: Solitary flowers on the end of stalk like a purple toilet brush, usually several plants next to each other.

Flower shape: spherical (the common) and the cordifolia is slightly flatter

Petals: protude outwards in tiny strands

Colour: lilac to slightly blue

Habit: mountain environments, alongside paths, in areas where rocks are found and also grass lands

Flowering period: May to September - spring and summer.
