2025 - TOUR SAINT BERNANRD - 8 days only - Tour Saint Bernard - TSB

2025 -  TOUR DES COMBINS - 8 days only - Tour des Combins - TDC

There are 3 accommodation options - BASIC, HOTEL & HUT OR LUXURY.

TREK GUIDE:  An English, UK trained,  Qualified trek guided is always included, known as an International Mountain Leader (IML) who speaks English, French, German & Spanish and are always to hand to guide and assist you.

TMB BASIC CAMP:
Try the no frill option for backpackers outside in all weathers and under canvas each night.  TMB CAMP, a product for walkers wanting to walk.  Do it with no assistance and sleep under the heavens mainly in valley campsites each night but prepared for an adhoc detour and sleep under the stars in the mountains.  This requires commitment to do a long walk for 12 days around the entire Mont Blanc mountains through 3 countries carrying your gear  in all weathers.
Walkers carry everything in a rucksack, do it with little to no home comforts and enjoy the fresh air, they do valley walking and mountain walking, and occasional mountain bivouacs, they eat far less and buy extras themselves if they wish to, it's a basic product options with a trek leader to lead the way and translate from French as required.  No cooking is involved as take out is the norm.  Pick up  a coffee and croissant, grab a light lunch sandwich and drink, it's included but dinner is a personal choice and not included.  Please note that no alcohol is included on HOTEL OR TMB CAMP options and water bottle are included and carried by individuals themselves.

TMB HOTEL & HUT:  The standard HOTEL and alpine refuge walking option uses 3 to 4 star hotels in towns and alpine refuges in the mountains, it includes dinner, bed and breakfast and a picnic lunch but no transportation as this is a walkers option for those willing to carry a backpack but clever enough to pack light.  No alcohol is included (although there are usually wine lists if desired). This is a walkers choice wishing for a bed, home cooking in the shape of dinner, bed and breakfast and picnics enroute each day.  Hotels in towns are usually 4 stars and selected for being clean and hygienic although sometime 3 stars are perfectly good enough too.  Please remember alpine refuges are often alpine dormitory accommodation for adults and children together as it is a high altitude mountain refuge where men and women share rooms in cordial conviviality.  Snoring is usually included free of charge.  Please note that no alcohol is included on HOTEL OR TMB CAMP options.

TMB LUXURY & LIFTS MAXIMUS:  The LUXURY option with luxury hotels is a far more generous proposition for those that like 3 course lunches with aperitifs and wine, generous dinners and a little bubbly every now and then for motivational purposes.  Hotel choices are fabulous.  In towns hotels always offer privacy, maximus comfort, European refinery, and full service.  The LUXURY product uses the finest of Swiss, Italian & French ski lifts, mountain trains and mountain tramways to lift you to the mountain tops.  A LUXURY product geared for clients wishing for baggage assistance so you can carry a day pack with essentials only, a trek bag is transported for you, it is suited to clients wishing for a relaxing pace to get around the entire granite Massif Mont Blanc mountains using ski lifts at every possible opportunity with baggage assistance and excellent food and wine at desirable mountain viewing opportunities and alpine villages. Not a sporty option!  You are on holiday!  Please note there are still mountains to get up on foot which are a challenge for many people without any mechanical intervention other than 2 feet and 2 trekking poles.

Do get in touch to do a half or quarter section  in less time.  Set your own dates if needed.  See below.

The Tour Mont Blanc is known as the TMB.  The TMB is a circular trek that can be done in either direction.  Start and meet in Switzerland or France.

To go anticlockwise take the option starting in Contamines or Chamonix in France.  To go Clockwise take the Swiss start option from La Fouly, in Switzerland.

Tour Mont Blanc trek is a circular hike...do it all, or half, or a subsection in France, Switzerland or Italy.  Take your pick!

If you buy the maps and a compass there is no reason why you cannot do it alone and with friends.

Go in August and you will be surrounded by so many people you can't really get lost, in June and July it is essential you can map reqad in detail as there are fewer people.  Even if you cannot use a map and compass play it safe and go with an International Mountain Leader (IML) to help guide you around the trek in all weathers and conditions because in deep fog you can then avoid falling off a cliff.

Embark on the TOUR MONT BLANC -  it is a circular hike through France, Switzerland & Italy done in 12 days. which allows time to take a break enroute, shelter from any severe Alpine storms, and enjoy your vacation.  Taking your time can avoid mistakes.

Other companies do it quicker and some even run it in under a week!  Take your pick!

So, here the full Tour Mont Blanc starting in France with Mont Blanc Trips is 12 days long.    For France starts meet at either Contamines or Chamonix in France.  The town of Contamines is near St Gervais Les Bains.   Both meeting points are access from Geneva airport on the Swiss / French border.

t is possible to start from the  Swiss side if you are happy to hop on a train and bus from Geneva airport to La Fouly  via SBB (train) and TMR (bus).

These are the 2 start options for France for this company (MontBlancTrips) although most people prefer Chamonix.   Chamonix in France is a shoppers paradise with equipment and sports shops everywhere, with enough restaurants for all tastes,  and sufficient croissants and cake shops to feed the French army.  Les Contamines, a town in France is smaller than Chamonix, it is reached via St Gervais Le Fayet train station and is near St.Gervais Les Bains.

The option starting in Switzerland is also for a 12 day TOUR.   You go from Geneva Cointrin International Airport to La Fouly, in Switzerland, which is a little village in the heart of the Swiss mountains, it is at the end of a Swiss valley beneath glaciers, between Swiss mountains in St Bernard countryside.  To arrive at this destination, you transfer from Geneva Cointrin International Airport, on a TMR train, via Martigny and via Orsieres, then do a short bus transfer to La Fouly from Orsieres.  It is easier than it sounds.  Always buy a ticket before boarding trains and buses to avoid a fine and pay in Swiss Francs (CHF) as it is Switzerland not Europe where they use the Euro.  Some trains and bus are run by TMR so buying a ticket together is easy from TMR, for using SBB trains you also pay in Swiss Francs (Swiss currency) at the ticket office with a passport from Geneva  Cointrin airport for example.

La Fouly is a charming Swiss mountain village.  It is easy to access but it is not a city, it is a tiny authentic alpine village nestled into a valley between big mountains.  It fills up very quickly in high season.

Summary of the full Tour Mont Blanc hike

Your trek leader is an IML this is a qualified and licensed trek leader known as an International Mountain Leader.   The 12 day Swiss start option is a more relaxed paced proposition.

The FULL Tour Mont Blanc is a circular mountain hike through 3 countries which offer views of the Mont Blanc mountains from the French side, the Swiss side, and the Italian side.

You meet in the morning with a view to setting off at 10:00 up the mountain from La Fouly.

It is a highly rewarding and demanding circular hike going up and down mountains on long paths and across mountains and rocks  through 3 countries with a large ruck sack on your back the entire way.  It is hard work at times.  The only product offered by Mont Blanc Trips without a rucksack is the LUXURY options which is a mix of sight seeing, hiking using lifts, taxis and luggage assistance, eating and drinking in finer restaurants, more enjoying of museums and high culture along the way whilst still doing the best bits of the Tour Mont Blanc walk with help from ski lifts.

The HOTEL & HUT option is a usual offering for motivated walkers on holiday and going more leisurely over 12 days and eating well on a daily basis.

For shorter options, go for the 1/4 or 1/2 options.  A great taster and not overly committing with a falvour of the action.  You can always come back for more.

Why do the Tour Mont Blanc?

The Tour Mont Blanc provides a slice of European culture in Switzerland, Italy and France.  Visit the towns of Courmayeur in Italy, Chamonix in France, Swiss mountain villages and enjoy the heartlands of rural alpine Switzerland surrounded by Swiss cows.  The scenery is delightful and alpine pastures are heavenly.  Mountains are spectacular.  The weather is usually varied, it can be hot, but it can also be humid and stormy, or cold and windy.  You can guarantee four seasons in one day so being prepared for changing weather is really essential on a walking day.  When it rains it pours.  A wonderful European hike it is a highlight to meet other travellers, tourists, walkers who appreciate the great outdoors, natural beauty and the beauty all around.
