The full Tour Mont Blanc starting in France is 9 days long.  Start and meet at either Contamines or Chamonix in France.  The town of Contamines is near St Gervais Les Bains.  These are the 2 start options for France for this company (MontBlancTrips) although other companies do start it from Les Houches in France.   Chamonix in France is a shoppers paradise with equipment and sports shops everywhere, and enough restaurants and cake shops to feed the French army.  Les Contamines in France is smaller than Chamonix, it is reached via Le Fayet train station and is uphill from St.Gervais Les Bains.

The Tour Mont Blanc is known as the TMB.  The TMB is a circular trek that can be done in either direction.  To go anticlockwise take the option starting in Contamines or Chamonix in France.  To go Clockwise take the Swiss start option from La Fouly, in Switzerland.

The option starting in Switzerland for a 12 day option which is slightly longer to allow some breathing time along the way and allowing a little rest time which will increase the pleasure factor for most people wishing to see scenery requires you to make your own way to La Fouly which is not complicated.  You go from Geneva Cointrin International Airport to La Fouly, in Switzerland, which is a little village at the end of a Swiss valley beneath glaciers and below Swiss mountains in St Bernard countryside.  To arrive at this destination, the small alpine village of La Fouly, you transfer from Geneva Cointrin International Airport, on a TMR train via Martigny and Orsieres, do a short bus transfer to La Fouly from Orsieres, both train and bus are run by TMR so buying a ticket is easy from TMR, you pay in Swiss Francs (Swiss currency) at the ticket office with a passport.

La Fouly is a charming Swiss mountain village.  It is easy to access from Geneva Cointrin Airport via TMR train & TMR bus but it is not a city it is an authentic alpine community nestled into a valley between big mountains.

The IML is a qualified and licensed trek leader known as an International Mountain Leader.  You meet in the morning with a view to setting off at 10:00 up the mountain from La Fouly.  The 12 day Swiss start option is a more relaxed paced proposition (than the 9 day French start options) with slightly more relaxation time enroute.

The FULL Tour Mont Blanc is a circular mountain hike which offer views of the Mont Blanc mountains from the French side, the Swiss side and the Italian side.  It is a rewarding and demanding circular hike going up and down through 3 countries with a large ruck sack on your back the entire way.  It is hard work at times.  The only product offered by Mont Blanc Trips without a rucksack is the TMB LUXURY MAXIMUS which is a mix of sight seeing, hiking using lifts and taxis, eating and drinking and enjoying culture whilst still doing the best bits of the Tour Mont Blanc and some sight seeing with the help of ski lifts.    For shorter options go with the 1/4 or 1/2 TMB options.  For the full select from either HOTEL or CAMP option.

The Tour Mont Blanc provides a slice of European culture in Switzerland, Italy and France, you visit the town Courmayeur in Italy, Chamonix in France and enjoy the heartlands of rural alpine Switzerland in the mountains surrounded by Swiss cows.  The scenery is delightful.  The flowers and alpine pastures are heavenly.  The mountains are spectacular if you like that sort of thing although compared to the Himalayas there are smaller.  The weather is usually varied and you can guarantee four seasons in one day so being mentally prepared for changing weather is really important.  This is a fabulous European hike.  A highlight is meeting other travellers, tourists, walkers along the way, who appreciate similar trips, the great outdoors, and natural beauty and bounty all around.
